Activities with the horses are always designed to meet the individual needs and goals of the client. For example, a child recovering from sexual abuse may need additional assertiveness skills; activities with the horses will be designed so this client can practice being assertive. Often times, detailed instructions are not provided for activities in order to safely & gently challenge a client to move beyond their comfort zone; the process of identifying resources & problem solving can build self confidence & encourage the use of coping skills.
Some clients also enjoy helping to care for the farm & animals while participating in sessions utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques. Please note that therapy services never involve riding and riding is not a service covered by insurance companies.
Beginning therapy can feel scary, but the relaxed atmosphere on the farm and equine therapy programs available help to make that easier. For children & teens, the animals tend to make therapy more enjoyable which can lead to greater outcomes. For those who don't want to go to a doctor's office, the farm is a perfect fit.
Harley Grace Farm & Counseling Center will serve as a safe place of acceptance, growth & healing for all people and animals who enter our gates.
